Maverique

Maverique (pronounced mav-er-eek) is a non-binary gender identity characterised by a strong sense of internal gender that is independent of and disconnected from the male/female binary. It's not simply feeling like "neither" male nor female, but rather experiencing a distinct and autonomous gender identity that exists outside of that framework altogether.

Here's a breakdown of the key aspects:

  • Independent of the Binary: This is the defining characteristic. Maverique individuals feel their gender is not related to or derived from the concepts of "man" or "woman". It's not a mix of the two, nor is it the absence of them in a neutral way.
  • Internal Sense of Gender: Like all gender identities, maverique is rooted in an internal feeling and understanding of one's own gender.
  • Distinct and Autonomous: The gender felt by a maverique person is experienced as something unique and self-defined, not defined in relation to the binary.
  • Not Simply "Third Gender": While maverique falls under the broader umbrella of non-binary identities (which are sometimes referred to as "third gender" categories), it emphasises the independence from the binary rather than just being a category outside of it.
  • Varied Expression: Maverique individuals can have any gender expression (masculine, feminine, androgynous, or something else entirely). Their presentation doesn't define their maverique identity.
  • Pronoun Usage: Maverique individuals may use any pronouns that feel right for them, including he/him, she/her, they/them, or neopronouns.

Think of it this way:

Imagine the gender binary as two separate circles, "male" and "female". Someone who is agender might feel outside of both circles. Someone who is bigender might feel connected to both. A maverique person might feel like they exist in a completely different shape or form that has no inherent connection or relationship to those two circles.

In summary, maverique is a non-binary gender identity for those who experience a strong and intrinsic sense of gender that is fundamentally separate and independent from the traditional male/female gender binary. It's about having a gender that exists on its own terms.
